25th Match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 will be played between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Daredevils on 22nd April at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Being an evening match starting at 8pm, dew factor cannot be ruled out and some turn can be expected on the wicket.
This will be the 7th match for Mumbai Indians in the tournament after winning five out of the six matches played. Mumbai Indians are in best of their form and is at the top of the points table with 10 points. All the players are performing and each of them has contributed to the win. Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Parthiv Patel have performed when required. And on the other hand Nitish Rana is consistent with his bat. Kieron Pollard, Mitchell McCleneghan and Jos Buttler have fixed their slot with their performance. In the last match against Kings XI Punjab they chased the huge total of 198 runs in just 15.3 overs. Bowling department is also performing well but Lasith Malinga is out of form. Skipper Rohit Sharma is also out of form which is conveniently concealed by the batting performance of the team; surely it is a matter of serious concern for the team management. There should be no changes in playing XI as they are performing well as a single unit.
Delhi Daredevils have won two out of five games played. Wining the two matches of the first three played, then followed by two consecutive loses has made captain Zaheer Khan and Coach Rahul Dravid to rethink on team strategy. Lack of experienced players, mainly in the batting order is one of the reasons for the losses. In bowling Chris Morris is only performing consistently who has also contributed with the bat when required. Inclusion of Angelo Mathews hasn’t added anything as yet to the bowling department but he has more than made up for it with the bat. Karun Nair is out of form, it will be tough to replace him as their full time wicketkeeper de Kock has been ruled out of IPL due to injury. In the last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, DD batsmen appeared to be helpless chasing the huge total of 191. Corey Anderson might be brought back in place of Mathews provided he is fit.
Head to head: MI vs KKR
MI and DD have encountered 18 times in IPL history and are even with 9 wins each. But DD is yet to defeat MI at their home; Mumbai. In this season Mumbai Indians’ performance at home ground and also their previous records do not leave much space for DD.
